When using liquid detergent, add the baking soda during the wash cycle; when using powder, add the baking soda during the rinse cycle. - Whiten & Brighten -Pour 1 cup of lemon juice in a bucket half full of water and soak clothes overnight. Or add ¼ to 1 cup of washing soda (a more powerful form of baking soda) to each laundry load during the wash cycle.

- Fragrance -If you want to add fragrance, do so during the drying cycle. Put a few drops of essential oil on a cotton cloth, and toss it into the dryer with wet clothes. - Treat Grease Stains -For best results, treat stains while they're fresh.

Cover the oily spot with a mixture of Borax and warm water and let it sit-20 minutes for a light, fresh stain, and two hours for a heavy, set stain-then rinse with cold water. - Remove Perspiration Odors and Stains -Spray full-strength distilled white vinegar on underarms and collars of shirts before washing. Homemade solution to remove the colour of other cloth Things You’ll Need:Bleach or color safe bleachTooth brushLaundry pre-treatPyrex measuring containerWaterStep1Spray laundry pre-treatment onto area with mildew. Grab the tooth brush and start scrubbing the laundry pre-treat into the fabric. You may need to spray more of the pre-treatment onto the area.

If the mildew doesn’t seem to be getting smaller or lighter, then mix 1/4 a cup of bleach (or color safe bleach) with 1/2 a cup of water in a Pyrex container and dip your tooth brush into mixture, and start scrubbing the area on your clothes with the bleach mixture. Step2Machine wash the clothing item by itself using the hot water setting if possible (Always follow the directions on your clothing labels, especially if hot water will cause shrinking). Let the clothes agitate for a few seconds and then add in bleach and water mixture from the Pyrex container.

Once the cycle has finished, examine the area and if there is still mildew use the laundry pre-treat and tooth brush again. It is possible that the mildew problem has affected the fibers deeper down and will not be able to be cleaned off. Step3Repeat using the laundry pre-treat if necessary. It might take more than one application.
