Is working for an organization funded by the federal governemnt the same as working for the federal government?

I went to apply for a job and the only way I could apply is if I had worked for the federal governemnt before. I had worked for Americorps VISTA/The Corporation for National and Community Service where I was paid each month from funds from the federal governemnt (i think) but i'm not sure if I can say I worked for them...does anyone know... I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
