Its not the greed/materialism that bothers me about kids and Santa Claus, because that is the things hoped for (details) Rather, its the brand-name marketing. Isn't it odd that virtually ALL Children insist on the very same toys, clothes, gadgets? Where is the individualism?

Personal taste and interests, in THAT? I'm getting leery of some charity loading down some kid with all (opr just several) of the latest, most expensive, trendiest gadgets and the news acting like a life was saved. Childrens' wants should be based on their personal interests and tastes, not what some marketing campaign TELLS them .

What you owned was one of the things that marked the difference between the poor and the not so poor kids in public school in Chicago when I was a child, and I doubt if it either began or ended then and there. Lionel, Gilbert, Tinkertoy, Lincoln Logs, Easy-Bake Oven, Roy Rogers lunch box, Hopalong Cassidy cap guns, Buck Rogers space ship, Shirley Temple dolls, just a few of a host of Brands that have been marketing directly to children since before I was born. While children then drew ideas for their wish lists from Sears and Roebuck or Montgomery Ward catalogs, ads in the Sunday newspaper supplements or in comic books, today they also have television and the internet to suggest desirable things to have.

However, I don't think that marketing manipulation by the new media has done more than to amplify problems arising from youths desire to be different from adults, yet recognized as a member of their peer group.

Parents are the most significant is bringing up their kids to instill self esteem and a balance in life. Then they can determine what they want and see through the hype and advertising crap. Jexebellion 17 days ago.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
