I've tried lots of different exercise regimes but can't seem to lose my tummy. Any suggestions which don't involve the dreaded crunch?

Don't skip meals bc that slows down your metabolism. At least have a banana w/ an orange & apple in the a.m. After your workout.

They say to wait a good 1/2 hr. After you work out to eat. Make sure you drink lots of water.

The fastest way to lose body fat is running or the swimming you mentioned that you will do. Anything that gets your heart rate up there. And most importantly stay away from & foods.

You can research that. Not only do they cause us to gain weight but are empty calories and can cause health issues esp cancer causing.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
