Japanese people: If given the opportunity, would you switch to a privatized American-style Healthcare system?

The Healthcare system in Taiwan is already partially privatized, rich people can pay for premium health insurance if they want to. Taiwan's Healthcare system, also known as National Health Insurance, is universal for all Taiwanese citizens, a mandatory and enforced insurance designed to let everyone share the cost burden of disease. Underprivileged, children, elderly and people with working disabilities are exempted from the monthly Healthcare payment and are automatically added to the Healthcare system.

Currently, Taiwan spends less than 8% of total GDP on Healthcare, whereas the US spends around 16% of their GDP, which is a tremendous difference, considering the scale of the two economies. Taiwanese people often say Taiwan has the best Healthcare system in the world, as seeking primary care (family doctor) only cost about NT$100~150 (USD$3~5), and not much more in tertiary care (large hospitals, medical centers). Regarding your question, I believe most Taiwanese prefer Healthcare system staying as the way it is, as long as the government don't raise the monthly Healthcare payment, which is minuscule compared to Healthcare system payments from other countries in the world.

Taiwan has heavy restrictions to medical practices, and emphasizes on patient-centered care, as of now, all hospitals are not allowed to make profits off their practices, in other words, hospitals are non-profit organizations. I know just recently, some people in the Taiwanese government and hospital-related industries are pushing for medical tourism, a newly found and growing business in the Asia community, but not much has happened because some people are worried of conflict of interest, between the profitability of business and the well being of patients.

Hell no! American healthcare is perhaps the worst in the world! Just watch this PBS program: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/...

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
