Members of US Congress: Insider trading and making millions? You bet and it's legal?

You bet and it's legal. Bill to outlaw this & require monthly reporting can't even get enuf signatures to be discussed. It's brought before congress every year and ignored. I know of other legal ways for the ultra wealthy to get early info that affects their investment decisions.

Info we can't get because it's illegal. How can any American think this situation is ethical or a benefit to our country or it's people? cbsnews.com/8301-18560_162-57323527/cong... I have a feeling they see it as just one of the "perks. " We need some fundamental change. I think it's not going to come from the top...it's going to be bottom up.

The point is NOT to trust them to do the right thing but to force them to do the right thing. When it rains in one place, there's draught in another. The money they get from this legal inside trading and sure fire investments, comes from somebody else's pocket.

Layer by layer Congress is being revealed to be more disingenuous and self serving than we knew them to be before. The Republican members of congress partake in this activity while blocking the funding that will help people feed their kids and keep their homes and livelihoods. How the hell do they sleep at night?

Saints they ain't, but what's worse, is the IQ of the people who vote them in. They couldn't get anywhere without the people they screw. That's what's wrong with America...one of the things.

The only thing that will EVER effect a change is an intelligent force pushing back. If it starts with a petition, then we must petition! People have become so used to being demoted to ineffectual children in this country by the people they vote into office, that they just think that's the way life is.

ITS NOT! People need to wake the hell up and start seeing politicians, and quit saying, "Oh that's been going on forever. That's just politics".....Its that behavior that's enabled the criminal activities and unjust treatment of our citizens by greedy, soulless politicians.

JPeople don't deserve being treated any better when they do nothing at all, just accept like sheep, the manner in which this country is being incrementally dismantled by the members of Congress and the monsters they serve.

It's immoral. It should be stopped. This occurs with both parties.

Evil people will find ways around it. We could pass a law that requires them to tell us a day ahead of time, what stocks they are buying. If their money is in a blind trust, tell us what the blind trust is buying a day ahead (I don't believe that blind trusts are so blind).

Very few want this one to stop so it's being ignored. Politicians=liars and cheats.....Skylight said >The Republican members of congress partake in this activity while blocking the funding that will help people feed their kids and keep their homes and livelihoods. Baucus (D-MT0Sen. Kerry (D-MA)Rep.

Capito (R-WV)Rep. Hastert (R-IL) .

There was never any doubt it not limited to a party. That's the point. There are more than that and I noticed you listed the Democrats first - how about starting with B for Beohner.

What minds you people have. You can't even imagine working together to accomplish something for ALL Americans. It was clearly a non-partisan expose done of CBS 60 minutes.

But that doesn't change the fact that Republicans have been blocking every bill to help get this economy going so that they can say Obama bad. These are separate issues. Politicans suck.

But again I'd like to see the list of the five behind the Stock Bill. Give credit where credit is due. Maximum20Characters 22 days ago .

I simply copied the list from another answer to the same question that was posed earlier.....I distrust all politicians so the D or R is meaningless to me, they should all have P behind their names.....I was responding to an post by Skylight where Republicans are called out...an answer, by the way, I noticed that you had no issue with.

She made a point within her comment which is true but didn't claim that any one party was more at fault in this situation and it isn't. This is a horrible abuse of ethnics. It's legal but not morally legal and you'd think Americans would be fit to be tied as a unified group.

Screw them all. There were five who signed on that bill and I want to know what five are that non-selfserving. Nobody has done any research to find out who were the five who support it.

Maximum20Characters 21 days ago .

I also did not claim that any one party was more at fault than the other....I have said repeatedly in posts (this one included) too numerous to count: politicians=cheats and liars. It would be nice to know who the five are......

It's shameful. Maximum20Characters 21 days ago .

So I guess Skylight's comment kinda stands when you look at that list. 2 Repubs, 16 Dems for a bill that would just make something that's clearly unethical, also illegal. Who I wonder got this horrible law passed in the first place?

Who was behind allowing all members of Congress to insider trade and literally have the power to affect a bill on the basis of whether it'll earn them a fortune in stock investments or not? How long has this been going on? Was it ever against the law or was this part of deregulation of wall St?Maximum20Characters 21 days ago .

The 2 Republicans are horrible...so are only 16 Democrats. I don't mind you all laying the blame at the Republicans feet...just play fair and lay it at the feet of the Democrats as well.....once again: politicians=liars and cheats. It's the nature of the beast.

I know and you know the Republicans work as an "organism" and do not vote basis their own individual response to a bill. They move as one and their motivation is to address first things first - no matter how it affects the long-term suffering of all Americans - and that is to attain the Presidency. Democrats are know to be more diverse and less dogmatic, which is their strong point and their weakness.

They are not above taking bribes from lobbyists or taking advantage of unethical legal practices like this anymore than Republicans are. Right now there are a couple of Democrats who really do serve the greater good but certainly they have their blue nose infiltrators who work in union with the Republican organism. These are people who joined the Democratic party because they needed a home from which to run against a Republican but they not represent any different mindset.

I despise Republicans in general for ignoring the message of moderate members of their party who are being driven out, in order to pander to the extreme fundamentalist right wing - which is funded by big money. They have no allegiance to their greater constituency. I am sadly disappointed in the Democratic party as a whole.

They had the opportunity to support some fantastic legislation much needed by all Americans right now but they apparently were too interested in getting their pockets lined by lobbyists and weakened their party and failed their constituents. So yes, both suck but I have never seen a sorrier bunch in my life that the losers and evil monsters running as Republican candidates for nomination right now. It's mind-boggling.

Maximum20Characters 20 days ago .

Well, I agree with the both stink statement but I disagree with your assessment that the Democrats don't vote the political party line hand in hand with each other, but we are allowed to disagree. I am, on the other end, as you so aptly stated, deeply disappointed in the GOP as a whole, but it is because they have deserted their conservative principles for RINO agendas. My thinking about the whole sorry mess that is our current government is that politicians on both sides of the aisle have sold their integrity for a few sound bites, a few dollars and a chance to get their names on the short list for some higher elected office.

I do agree that we don't seem to have much of a conservative choice for the GOP nomination and I'm hoping that someone will cull themselves out and step forward with something that will be palatable for conservative voters...right now I still am thinking of supporting Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich is appealing, but less so to me than Cain.

I want someone smarter than I am to be President of the free world :) Herman Cain is a damn good salesman. Good salesman aren't always intelligent but rather perceptive. I've worked with barracudas in my life and I recognize one when I see him.

They have their place but we don't need a traveling salesman who has a talent for saying what his customer's want to hear, and closing a door to door sales deal, as POTUS. Give the guy a big gold salesman of the month award, overlook what he says at the water-cooler to get a laugh, put his picture in the lobby for a year, but realize he doesn't know sh1t from shinola when it comes anything that isn't directly related to his sales job. I've known six figure salesmen who didn't know Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States and wanted all Puerto Ricans deported.

They could talk up a proverbial storm but they were following a memorized script - not really thinking. Maximum20Characters 20 days ago .

Interestingly enough, that is how I think of President Obama.....for the record, I was originally a ..... I have always felt the President Obama is a glorified confidence man, just my opinion though.

I wonder why you'd think that since there has never been a candidate so vetted as Obama. He's been turned inside out. They had nothing on the guy.

Maximum20Characters 20 days ago .

Turned inside out and made excuses for....with anyone who disagrees with his political ideals called racist. There is nothing on Herman Cain except accusations and President Obama had those with charges filed and then ignored...so, I see no difference. I'm not trying to be difficult...I'm just like you and everyone else, I simply believe what I believe......

Here is nothing on Herman Cain except accusations "With all due respect, that's misleading. There were out of court settlements/agreements made regarding multiple sexual harassment situations and I can't imagine five women conspiring together over years to sue the man. It's ridiculous to think he would settle without even defending his name.In my book he wanted to distance himself fast and settled in a way that the accusers were paid off but muzzled and our bizarre new "family values" don't cover women who do more than make babies and stay home and serve their man.

Maximum20Characters 18 days ago .

I disagree, Cain never made a settlement himself the NRA did and I believe that the old guard of the GOP are anxious not to have Cain as the nominee, that last part is just my opinion, of course.....I also believe that our bizarre new "family values" cover all women except those who choose to stay at home.....women who choose to stay at home and care for their families are considered to be an affront to the women who go out and work, but both are free to make their own choice....

I've heard this before but unfortunately it doesn't make any sense at all from a legal standpoint. I've discussed this on law forums and with an attorney in my family. It' a ridiculous argument.

Secondly women who stay home and produce babies are goddesses in our society right now. It certainly is not anything our culture looks down on. However it's a fact that a single income, unless its a fortune, is virtually impossible to live on if you're raising a family and preparing responsibly for one's childrens' future. It's just not the 1950's anymore.

And June Cleaver in make up and a suit with ana apron, vacuuming and cooking alone for Ward return from work was not very fulfilling or mentally healthy for women. Maximum20Characters 16 days ago .

Once again, I disagree with you, respectfully of course, some people's mental health and personal fulfillment doesn't rest in the ability to bring home a paycheck or to have a career.....I have been on both sides of that coin and I was definitely more fulfilled while I was at home interacting with my kids....as far as income issues, one only has to learn the difference between want and need and then be satisfied when needs are filled.....I also don't see the "goddess" status for stay-at-home Moms that you refer to. I have heard women that I know personally ridiculed for not "working"..As for it not being the 1950s anymore, I was born closer to 1970 than to the 1950s so that point of reference has little meaning for me. Last but not least, I have also discussed Cain's situation with my nephew who is an attorney and his opinion is that Cain may have had no knowledge of the monetary settlement, that it was arranged and paid by the NRA without Cain's knowledge or expressed consent.

With all due respect you're gleaning your information from within a vacuum. A group that agrees with itself or an ideology. Herman Cain is never going to be the Republican choice for a candidate so I really feel it's kind of a waste of time to talk about it.As far as women are concerned, I'm not sure your argument is not based on ideological belief system.

It's up to women to choose individually what they want to do with their lives and those who have chosen careers are darn lucky because right now it is easier for a woman to find a job than a man and a family and individuals and just couples need to bring in an income to survive. I live in an environment where there are plenty of stay-at-home moms and nobody is ridiculing them so I believe this is "facts from the pulpit." I did choose to have two kids and after I finished my education, I stayed home until both were in school full time.

When they were gone all day, I went back to school and then worked. I would have gone berserk alone in the house, cleaning and then watching soap operas til the school bus drove by. That's my take not everyone's take and I certainly don't belittle those who choose to stay home but I can say this - when your mind is not challenged, you have a lot less to say and you begin sounding more and more like the children you care for.

I know more women who have chosen careers than women who have chosen to stay home after their kids are old enough to go to school full time. I do not think that if give a vote, American women would choose to give up their educations and careers. If you took a vote at your local fundamentalist church, you might get a different response but, in general, AMERICANS not a right wing religious group, prefer the stimulation and human contact that comes from perusing a career.

We have more women in med school today than we do men. An increasing number of women are choosing to pursue study in the sciences. Women are more active in music and art.

No if I was a young woman and my choices were Days of Our Lives, Church suppers and Wednesday bible reading and attending to kids and producing more and more and more until my health was challenged, I'd choose to work my way through college if it took a lifetime and pursue a career. Maximum20Characters 15 days ago .

There goes the Insider Trading by Congressmen question. I should have suggested the Cain crap and whether women are subservient and designed only for procreation and not be educated or work outside the home be proposed as different questions. Maximum20Characters 15 days ago .

LOL! Sorry, M20C, I didn't mean to veer off topic and take you with me....I still disagree with you but I respect your beliefs.....by the way, I am not a stay-at-home person.....I have a bachelors degree and a masters degree and I put them to good use. I have never, ever watched a soap opera, I think I would gladly shoot myself first!

:~) Our fundamentalist church doesn't encourage women to stay home, we encourage them to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. We do a lot of charity work and my husband and I lead an addiction recovery group along with a jail ministry.....we are very philanthropic and there are no stipulations about coming to church in order to be assisted. It's just what we do.......

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
