Michael Kirkham died after his first professional MMA fight. He was struck several times in the head and lost consciousness and died?

I think one of the things that attracts the people to participate in the sport is the excitement and risk. Many martial arts people seem t o think that pads are for new comers to the sport and are not needed if you know what you are doing. However from a an EMT point of view, having worked an event, I think some sort of protection would be beneficial.

Also with MMA the injuries can also be latent. With a no holds barred we have seen eyes knocked out of sockets, broken bones, internal injuries far beyond the external only to be deadly even after they feel better and recover and re enter the ring. One of our fire fighters years ago was an MMA and he was told one more fight or punch to the gut and his spleen or liver would rupture causing his death in the ring.

I do think some new rules should be in place at some point in time. Probably something will happen after more men die in the ring. But as some of the athletes say, they do it because of the excitement and risk to prove they are tougher and know their techniques better than their opponents. As a mom and wife, I think its stupid.

Mixed Martial Art fighter Michael Kirkham died from head injuries after his first professional match on Saturday. He died Monday morning at 8:25 am. Kirkman died at Aiken Regional Medical Center in South Carolina.

"He was struck in the head several times during the bout, was unresponsive when transported and never regained consciousness before dying from a brain hemorrhage," according to USA Today. "Until about a year ago South Carolina had a law banning mixed martial arts competitions. "An offshoot of boxing, the extreme sport, nicknamed MMA, uses a variety of fighting moves which includes in some cases hitting with hands, elbows and feet.

In 2007, another MMA fighter, Sam Vasquez, died in Houston after being in a coma for 42 days. The Biblical commandment "You shall not murder" has built in to it the concept of preserving life. While I'm certain that MMA fighters by and large do not wish to kill their opponents, it is incumbent upon MMA to look at ways to protect their fighters safety.

These two deaths are tragic and should not be repeated in the future.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
