Nope, sorry its a mandatory 30 day hold. After the 30 days you pay the impound fee's ( which will be quite high) and you get your car back.
30 days?! You owe more on impound fees by now than the thing will be worth! What you do is sue your friend for the cost of replacing the car.
That would be Officer discretion, if the driver co-operates fully, the officer may allow a friend or relative to pick up the car. A lot depends on the drivers driving and criminal record too. Give the officer lip, and kiss your car goodbye.
If the the driver is caught with drugs, guns, or any illegal contraband then it is a mandatory impound.
