My cat has started pooping on the floor! What do I do?!?

Firstly have him checked at the vets, in case there's an underlying health problem. If the vet gives him the all clear, then you need to investigate behavioural causes. Since he's making no attempt to poop in private places, this is not misplaced toileting.

He's 'middening'. Which means he's marking his territory with poop and it's the strongest 'keep out' message a cat can send. You need to figure out why he feels so anxious that he or his territory are under threat of some kind.

Have there been any changes of any kind in either your home or daily routine? What might seem insignificant to a human, can be a huge deal to a cat. Have you had any new visitors, houseguests, spent more time away from home than usual?

Are there cats or wildlife hanging around outside? Sometimes just staring in through the window can be intimidating enough to trigger marking in a sensitive cat. Any noisy road or building works going on locally?

It's also vital you use an enzyme cleaning product to completely remove your cat's scent, otherwise he'll won't be able to resist the urge to poop there again to top-up his marker as the smell begins to fade. After cleaning place a dish with a handful of dry food there as a deterrent. (Cats will rarely ruin food by soiling next to it.) Get get stressed when something changes, and pooping on teh floor is how they show nervousness stress, or anger. WHAT CHANGED?!?!? Did you move the litter box?

Change food brand? Get another pet? Someone leave the home or die?

Did someone scold or hit the cat? Did someone change their daily schedule, like Dad work's nights now? Try to figure out what changed, and change it back to "normal".

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
