My new kitten hisses at the adult cat I have. How do I get them to get along?

My new kitten hisses at the adult cat I have. How do I get them to get along? I recently adopted Zoe a female kitten.

I have Boomer a Male 2 year old cat. He loves cats and loves to play, he wants to play with Zoe, goes right up to her doesn't hiss nothing. But Zoe kisses at him almost immediately from seeing him.

Took a couple swats at him too. For some reason she just won't get along with him. I've only had for I've 2 days though.

I put one on one side of the gate and the other on the other so they can't fight. But Does anyone have any idea how to get them to get along? Any ideas I can try?

Is this normal? Will she ever like boomer and play like I hoped to? Asked by Nikky22 27 months ago Similar questions: kitten hisses adult cat Pets > Cats.

AS PER THE EXPERTS ON... the Animal Planet show BARKING MAD. 2 days is nothing...... be patient. Take a small hand towell or a piece of cloth and rub all over Boomer.

Place the cloth wiht his scent under the kitten's dish. Zoe will associate Boomer's scent with a pleasant meal. Get a small spray bottle (Harmons $1.29) and whenever the kitten hisses torwards Boomer, spritz her and say firmly NO!

Eventually just shaking the bottle will get her off the defense position. Play with a feathery toy with both and one will sit and watch the other vey interested. All be well soon enough.

Thank you for adopting Zoe. One less animal that we animal lovers have to worry about. Hopefully if the government approves the tax credit for pets ($3,500) people will be inclined to keep the ones they adopted and care for them as it was intended..

Gate has to go! How sweet, Boomer really seems persistent. Most of the time the initial distrust will fade, but you can not seperate them, that is making it harder for them to mingle and co-exist.DO NOT force the issue.

Leave them alone, cats are born with the instinctual habits that are being displayed but just as they fight they eventually stop. The newbie is young and afraid,. As soon as the fear goes away and she realizes that Boomer wants to be friends she will pal up just fine.

Good luck and give the kitties a treat from me! .

Be patient. You just got the kitten. Give her time to adjust to her surroundings, to humans and boomer.

Maybe, she is frightened. She will adjust. Don't worry..

1 Don't worry about them...they'll be getting along soon enough. Two days isn't long enough for Zoe to get acclimated to her new environment as well as another cat, but it will happen in its own time, probably not very long from now. It's a big plus that Boomer is so goodnatured because he likely won't retaliate when she swats at him.

Really, Nikky, just give it some time and don't stress yourself..and they will do just fine together.

2 A new kitten is still checking out the situation and will be on the defensive. It may take a few weeks or longer to get everything worked out. They will be fine.

If they haven't gotten in a knock down drag out fight then don't worry and don't intervene. Let them settle this in their own way. I wouldn't keep them separated, one will hide if it is a bit overwhelmed for a time.

I hope they are neutered too.

I want to thank everybody for the good advice they gave me on how to introduce a new kitten to my other cats.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
