I don't believe there are any airborne diseases one can catch from cat urine or feces. That said, some cat litters put out a lot of "dust" when you are pouring them, scooping the box, or kitty is kicking the litter to cover up pee or poop. It just makes sense to me that inhaling clay dust, or whatever the litter is made of, probably isn't great, so I'd go with a litter that is low on this "dust" factor.

Toxoplasmosis (cat scratch fever) and ringworm can be caught from litter boxes, but not if you use basic hygiene, i.e. Wash hands immediately after doing anything with the litter box. Just for your son's olfactory comfort, he may wish to place the litter box a decent distance from his bed.

There are also "screens" you can put up (you could easily fashion one of these, I'm sure) and litter boxes with high "ceilings" so you don't have to be viewing the litter box all the time. Also, a little piece of carpeting or such right where kitty steps out of the box will keep down the amount of litter that is tracked out of the box. Not really a health threat; just a nuisance.

Good to keep a dustpan and whiskbroom (used solely for this purpose) for sweeping up "escaped" litter. The last item is not one you asked about but I'm throwing in my two cents worth as I think it is very important. Your son must scoop/clean the litter box regularly (daily; with one cat you could wait two days if your son was spending the night out or such).

Cats are very clean by nature and if a litter box gets too dirty, they will go elsewhere - on the floor, furniture, etc. It is not the cat's fault; they are "programmed" not to pee/poop in such a dirty environment. Once the cat has gone elsewhere, it may continue to have problems consistently using the litter box. I highly recommend the scoopable litters.

The good brands do a good job of clumping the urine, which means the urine can be scooped out efficiently and the entire litter box need not be changed nearly so often. It may seem more expensive, but it really is probably less costly since you don't have to dump the whole box once a week. Also, your son must leave his bedroom door ajar enough for the cat to get in and out of the room when he/she needs to use the box.

I think it's great he has a kitten! A nice thing for a teenager to do - take care of a cat. Good luck!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
