My wireless Internet connection drops every 10-15 minutes. Linksys WRT54G; cable modem. Help!

I use the same laptop and identical wireless routers in two houses. In one, no problem. In the other, the wireless connection drops frequently.

I am always able to 'repair' and reconnect, but that's only temporary. I've tried changing the channel on which the router works, (1, 6, and 11 are recommended by linksys) which helps for a day or so, then the problem arises. Any ideas?

Do site-survey, select unused channel, relocate wireless router, upgrade antenna(s). See details: Do site-survey, select unused channel, relocate wireless router, upgrade antenna(s). See details:----------------------------------------------------------------------------------Recommend you temporarily turn off you LinkSys and perform a site-surveyby "warwalking" at least around your property line:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WardrivingNote which other wireless networks are nearby, what channels they use, andtheir relative signal strengths.

Idea behind (LinkSys's) channel "1, 6, & 11" recommendation is to provide for up to THREEwireless network in an area with the maximum frequency separation between them. You can:----------- after doing a site-survey, select a channel in-between in-use channels, ideally as far away from in-use channels as possible. For instance, if 1, 6, & 11 are all in-use, select 3 or 4, or 8 or 9(whichever has the weakest competition).

- re-locate your wireless router on your property to provide better signal coverage- (if possible) upgrade your wireless router's antenna. Many have external antenna options with higher gain (measured in dBd or dBi - larger # better). - install additional wireless access points-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Site-Survey/WarWalking software:KisMet is more difficult to set-up, but has the advantage of a "passive" mode:http://WWW.KISMETWireLess.Net/NetStumbler is easier to set-up, but operates in "active" mode:http://WWW.NetStumbler.Com/ Sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wardriving .

JLB I too have had this problem. This is how it went. Jlb, have you tried calling your cable company and having them come out to check it?

If so, what did they say/ or do? I had the same exact thing happen for the first 8 months after my wireless was installed, They changed routers 5 times, did all kinds of stupid crap everytime they came out...Until the last time they came..they replaced the wire coming into the house, eliminated 2 splitters and took a cable wire completely out that wasn’t needed. I have not had a problem since then and that was 2 months ago.

I too got tired of losing it and having to either disconnect and then reconnect or go to the router itself and pull the power plug for 60 seconds and then plug it back in for it only to work for 15 minutes tops. Sounds to me that if the cable company installed it, it was done incorrectly like mine was. Just out of curiosity who is your wireless provider?

Let me know more and what comes of this situation. Good Luck! .

Here is a link to and article which discusses things that cause wifi interference and what you can do about it. pcworld.com/printable/article/id,121789/... From the article: 1. Relocate your router (free): Place your router in a central room on the ground floor, as high off the ground as possible. To avoid blocking the signal, keep the device away from metal, concrete, or stone walls, and far from your water heater and other water tanks.

Large house plants and even CD collections can be other obstructions. Common sources of interference are 2.4-GHz cordless phones (use 900-MHz or 5-GHz models) and your neighbors' Wi-Fi networks operating on the same channel. Change your router's channel if necessary: Channels 1, 6, and 11 provide maximum distance from potentially overlapping signals.

The article continues with other options which could help your wireless. Hope this helps! Sources: pcworld.com/printable/article/id,121789/... .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
