Other R&D J. Further Info On April 26, 1986, the Unit 4 reactor at Chornobyl, near Kiev in the Ukraine, suffered the worst nuclear accident in history. A combination of poor design, nonexistent safety culture, and human error lead to an uncontrolled power increase that destroyed the core and dispersed radioactive contamination over a wide region of the Ukraine and Byelorussia.
See the IAEA's summary marking the 20th anniversary in 2006: "Revisiting Chernobyl: 20 Years Later", as well as the World Nuclear Association's summary at www.world-nuclear.org/info/chernobyl/inf07.htm. While the Chornobyl accident has little relevance to nuclear safety in CANDU and most other Western nuclear power plants (see related FAQ), the wide-spread nature of its environmental consequences and its generally high profile around the world ... more.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
