Other than dogs and cats, what animals do you feel make the best pets?

Similar questions: dogs cats animals feel make pets.

There are so many! I really think it depends on your needs as well as the amount of time/money/effort you want to spend in caring for the animal. Some non cat/dog pets I've had include fish, a chameleon, a newt, a soft-shelled crab, mice, rats and rabbits galore.

Then there are all the interesting animals I come across in my work with an animal rescue group. Really, there are so many great pets out there, but the most important part is doing the research before you adopt any of them. You need to know about housing, grooming, feeding, care, health, life span, etc. Also, if you're thinking about an unusual pet, you may have to find a vet that specializes.

Gerbils, I've been told. I know someone who has pet gerbils and says that they're wonderful, friendly, and much fun. She says they're not at all like hamsters, which sort of simply "exist." .

Hamsters I think hamsters make the best pets if you're looking for something other than the usual cats and dogs, especially for kids. For grown-ups - maybe fish (do you count fish as pets? ), or a lizard (if you're not sensitive to them)..

I've taken care of many different animals and... I love having fish, they're not hard to take care of plus they can be very beautiful but they aren't the best at showing affection. My favorite pet other than dogs of course are chinchillas! They are amazing, they have all the good aspects of things like hamsters that are pretty easy to take care of, loving, playful and very smart but they're big enough so you don't feel like you're going to break them if you hold them (which is how I sometimes feel with things like gerbils) plus they are the softest thing I've ever felt.

I love chinchillas! Of course all of this depends on how the chinchilla is treated. They need to get used to being held and petted and things like that and they might not be great with small children because they are like puppies and can chew on new things to figure out what they are (not intentionally to hurt them but they need to be trained to not do that).

But they really are great! BroadwayDiva3539's Recommendations The Chinchilla Handbook (Barron's Pet Handbooks) Amazon List Price: $11.99 Used from: $7.90 Average Customer Rating: 5.0 out of 5 (based on 1 reviews) .

GREAT Guinea Pigs! Guinea pigs are terrific friends! They're cuddly, clean & cheerful.

Most have great dispositions & love to play. Guinea pigs make great pets for most aged people, live in small dwellings, eat simple to find and cheap to buy pet food & groceries & are acceptable in most rental livings. They rarely need bathing.

If it's a long hair, it'll love you even more (& might purr loudly) if you brush it. Their nails are easy to clip! I've had dozens!

If properly loved & cared for you can expect one to live for as short as three years to as long as 12. (My oldest was 7, youngest was 3). Sources: Animal Lover!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
