Parents: Did you tolerate other people's kids better or worse before you had your own?

I don't think that you did anything wrong at all. In today's society, any time a parent does something different when it comes to certain activities (breastfeeding longer than is 'typical', wearing diapers for a need, liking to cuddle with a 12 year old son while watching a movie as a family... you get the picture), people for some reason feel the need to tell you what you did is wrong. This is especially true when it comes to boys and anything related to their private parts.

What makes this even more prone to criticism is that it involves diapers, which have such a negative connotation here in the USA (I'm assuming that you live in the USA.) As far as I see it, you and your son had a problem, you chose a solution, you were okay with it, he was okay with it, and now that the problem is gone, you've moved on. Diapers were a solution to your problem. BOTH you and your son found it easier for you to do the changing.

YOU ASKED HIM if he wanted to do it himself, and he said no -- that's important because you got HIS input on the subject. If I were you, I wouldn't give what you did a second thought -- other than thinking about not discussing it (if it happens again for some reason) with other people in the future.

First of all, it depends who told you those things. Are they your family? Friends?

I'm genuinely curious why you would blab about changing your son's diapers in front of people other than your family. If you think about it, it is not normal to change an 8 year old's diaper so the people you told were probably really surprised. When I was 8, I would've been so embarrassed!

I'm sure they're not trying to take over. It's just a regular discussion and suggestions. EDIT: Excuse me but I never said you were wrong or anything.

I just said "it is not normal to change an 8 year old's diaper so the people you told were probably really surprised." I said people would be surprised. Did I really say something that offended you?

I don't see how I'm judging you at all.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
