Please explain what is meant by an internal martial art, such as tai chi, versus an external martial art, such as karate?

Internal" and "External" categories of martial arts are often associated with the distinction between "hard" and "soft" fighting styles. A hard fighting style, such as Karate, uses strong stances, forceful blows and energy pulled from within the fighter and released in strong powerful motions. A soft fighting style such as Tai Chi, Wu Sing Bafa or Aikido, focus on using the energy of your opponent against him.

For example, if he strikes, you use the energy of his movements to pull his body into your blows. The idea of internal and external comes from expelling the energy from within and using it to fight without. Quigong, for example, would fall under the category of internal, because you are focusing on the breath, the energy and the warrior within.

External practices would be conditioning, bone strengthening techniques and muscle training.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
