What could be the problem with an over accelerated 1991 dodge stealth that sounds like it's missing but doesn't feel like it and has a knocking sound from the engine?

My 1992 twin turbo AWD had a similar problem and the cause was a rod bearing. I replaced the short block for $3000.00 labor and parts.
