Question about the blog of April 10th... I thought if a question closed with no answers, the question was deleted?

Question about the blog of April 10th... I thought if a question closed with no answers, the question was deleted ... Those of you that have been here awhile, please help me with my confusion. I thought that questions that closed with no answers were automatically deleted. Am I wrong?

Did it use to be that way, but it was then changed? If questions with no answers were automatically deleted, how can we answer old questions? Asked by marissa 45 months ago Similar questions: Question blog April 10th thought question closed answers deleted Amazon > Askville.

I don't think they were completely deleted. For at least as long as I have been here (a few months), I don't think that questions with no answers were ever completely deleted. I would occasionally stumble across a closed-with-no-answers question in obscure topics I searched for, and I also saw many questions with no answers but active and lively discussions going on for weeks and weeks.

But Askville did recently change how they handle questions-with-no-answers. Yes, you can answer old questions now, if they haven't had any answers. The Askville Mayor discussed this in the latest Askville blog post..

Askville is data-mining! You can delete a program from your PC, but fragments still remain. But that would only be relevant if Askville were in fact deleting the content from the servers, but they aren’t.

One of the reasons any entity would create a site like this would be to gather data, as well as the revenue from advertisers, widgets pointing to Amazon sellers and the ability to constantly remind us(you) about Amazon. Just because a question is deleted, doesn’t mean it’s gone forever. If Askville didn’t retain all of the content from this site, then some of the advantages from such data-mining would be lost.

Other companies will in fact pay for the statistical data gathered from such a site, and companies such as Amazon will be happy to sell it to them, regardless of any disclaimers such as "we do not share your personal minformation, e mail addresses with any third parties". Selling statisical data isn’t sharing your personal information, and fact is, once you submit ANYTHING to Askville, , that information is owned by Amazon. Read the TOS and privacy policy, if you don ’t believe me.

They simply dug back through certain dates and reactivated the questions that never recieved answers. I’m sure that a very big portion of those are being sent over th Mturk, as the turkers are paid (though it's very little).

Questions on Askville that go without answers (except Askville, Askville community, random crap or creative writing , or an similar incarnation of those topics) topicked questions automatically default back to Mturk. This serves a few purposes, obviously. The turkers, many of whom have dialed back their participation, due to lack of questions, can now have as reason to actually visit the proboards again. So the data-mining continues, people are happy to have their questions answered and the turkers can become active again.

Deleted is a subjective term, in this case, simply meaning deleted from our view! Sources: Askville .

Unanswered questions I do believe the old blogs did say that, but I’ve never known it to be true. I think it was just something they thought would be a good thing to do, but never instituted. I have had a couple of questions that didn’t get any answers and they were never deleted.

We definitely can answer old questions now, so they were never deleted, as I did answer some very old ones last night. I imagine they found /created some new code that enabled them to re-open those old, buried questions and decided to offer them up to us again to clear them out. If you can answer any, I would guess that the odds of you getting a default three star answer, though, are pretty high, as many are from "fly by night" askers-here today to ask the question and never returning..

1 Okay, here I found an old question, if you look at the discussion board, you see that we at least use to be lead to believe that questions without answers 'disappeared'. askville.amazon.com/answer-askville-ques... .

" "This is a deleted question" "This question was deleted. " " Askville:) My earlier question received 2 answers and was closed. I'm wondering why?

Thank you. " "Question has been deleted" "Is it possible to get more than 5 answers on a question on askville?" "How do I get more than one or two answers that sort of answer my Askville question? " "Question has been deleted" "This question has been deleted" "Question has been deleted.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
