Houk left after the 1973 season...Steinbrenner then tried to hire Dick Williams who had just resigned from the World Series winning Oakland As but ran into legal problem because Williams was still under contract with the As. Steinbrenner then hired Bill Virdon.

I have to admit that when it cme to spelling his last name I had to look it up. It was Houk, Ralph Houk. I knew who it was but I looked up the spelling and it’s a good thing because I thought that it was spelled Houck.
