Red dot sight or standard Scope?

$40 will get you some good hookers and blow, but $40 for a scope is going to get you a piece of junk.

A red dot can be fun for plinking, running shots at rabbits. But, to take advantage of your rifles accuracy and precision, I would look more towards a scope. A 4x fixed, or a variable power in the 3x9 range would work well.

Its tough to find good glass in that price range, though Bushnell and Simmons make decent scopes that should hold up on a .22, just don't expect the optical clarity and durability of more expensive models. Natchez is a good source I have used often natchezss.com/category.cfm?ca… Larry.

I would prefer a standard scope on my rifle. If I ever need to zoom in on something, I will be able to do so. Also at the price range that you at it is going to be hard to find a red dot that will not just crap out on you after using it just a few times.

I also have a ruger 10/22 and had the same problem as you are having now. I am glad that I chose the normal scope.

I would use a standard scope you can see farther and its more clear. But if its last light the red dot is better because you can see a bright red dot on the animal instead of dark cross hairs. But you will probably get more shots when its more light out then dark.

My Remington 597 wears a 3x9x40 most of the time. When Rabbit hunting or Plinking, I occasionally switch to a cheap red dot that I was given. It really just depends on how you like to shoot and what you intend to hunt with it.

Well, that depends on what your hunting. The only game I hunt with a .22 is squirrel, and I like having a regular scope on it. But then if this is one of those SHTF or just "tacti-cool guns" then I guess the red dot would work.

Walmart> Tasco 3-9 x 40 for $32.00.. Just to get you started though. Save some ducks and purchase a better one in the future.

$30-40 will get you some decent scope mounts but not a scope, any scope under $200 is a waste of cash.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
