Sure it does. The people who live close to state lines will cross them to buy cigarettes in a state where the tax is not so high. Not really sure why you directed this at Republicans, though.

Like TurboB, I don't know why you have linked this to a political party, but, for the most part, unfortunately, taxing cigarettes doesn't deter enough people. My mom had a friend who would buy cigarettes if she only had enough money to buy them or her high blood pressure meds. No kidding.

When I smoked (quit for 20 years, thank goodness) I lived in Hampton VA and would drive to Yorktown as there was less tax. As a North Carolinian now, I can say that a lot of people cross from VA into NC to buy cigarettes because they are cheaper.

Maybe. But this way, the government both makes money off a vice and find more of those folks who were going to commit a crime anyway (and wasted their time on a rinky-dink crime like cigarette smuggling). Doesn't that sound like a win-win to you?

I no longer smoke but my daughter has a friend who says she gets cigarettes cheap by ordering from an Indian Reservation on line. It is minus all the taxes you would pay if you purchased them in a store. I was surprised because I thought that would be illegal.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
