Should I take away my cat's food the night before he's declawed?

First of all, you are giving way too much credit to your cat's brain capacity. I believe cats are very smart, for animals, but scheming up elaborate plans ... I think not. Dangle a string in front of them, or point a laser light on the wall and then tell me your cat is capable of intelligent plotting!

Your friend could actually make a good point if he took stupidity out of his argument. Many people believe dogs are better because the relationship a person has with a dog is a lot different from the relationship a person can have with a cat (because hello, they are a completely different species). Dogs are generally (not in my case) more needy, and therefore they seem to be more loving.

Dogs will greet you at the door (both of my cats actually do that as well) and follow you around, as well as learn tricks, commands, and routines. The arguments for both cat-lovers and dog-lovers could go on forever, as for me, while I recognize the differences in the two species, I love them both equally. So, I can't say for certain that your cat loves you, because I am not there to see the relationship you have with your cat.

But I can say with certainty that my cats love me ... and really, its not the food lol. They have food down 24/7 and they seek me out all day long, in fact it sometimes drives me crazy because they will cry to be picked up, constantly sit on my lap (regardless of what I am doing at the time) and they purr so much that they both actually drool. My mom's cats have more solitary personalities ... they don't seem to need as much attention as my cats do, but I also know that my mom's cats love her and not because she provides their food.

When she goes on a vacation, I take care of her cats (food, water, play) but they are always so incredibly happy when she gets back, they truly missed her. And keep in mind that they had unlimited food the whole time she was gone. So maybe you can test your theory by paying attention to the way your cat reacts when you go out of town for a few days and come back.

I would not recommend taking away your cat's food (his only means of survival).

If that's true, then all cats put on a really good act. I'd hate to think that my cat didn't love me, but honestly, cats are very loving animals. If you want to test the cat, try waiting later to feed it than you usually do.

Observe the difference in its behavior before and after you feed it. You should be able to figure out the rest for yourself.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
