My natural inclination is to disagree with anything that Steve Spurrier says. My gut reaction is that old Steve thinks that the flag might be hurting his recruiting efforts or else he wouldn’t have said anything. I have mixed emotions about the issue because I am a Southerner who had ancestors who fought and died for that flag.

On the other hand nut groups like the Klan have used it as a racist symbol and could most be seen as offensive. Remember, I may be white but I’m also Catholic so the Klan isn’t all that fond of me either. All in all I would have to say that this is an issue that the state of South Carolina needs to work out for itself without people from other states butting in.

I would not be offended if they took it down but I just hope that this doesn’t open the door to the removal of Confederate monuments all around the South. After all, most of the men who fought for the South didn’t own slaves and didn’t care about slavery one way or the other. They were just answering the call to defend their homes from what they considered a foreign invasion. My solution, take down the flag but leave the monument.

But then again, I don’t live in South Carolina so I don’t see that I have a dog in this hunt. I love the south but I don't get it. If you want to remember something great about the South, put up a flag showing how kind, considerate, well-mannered and thoughtful the people are, put one up showing the 8.5 months of perfect weather and beautiful scenery. Put something up to really be proud of and everyone will celebrate it.

I think that it is awesome that the coach had the gumption to say what others should but don't say. The world needs people to stand up for what they believe in. 1 Not the battle flag. If they want a historic reference it should be the government flag.

2 I think that that would be another solution Ed. The battle flag is the one that the Klan has marched around with. Replace it with the Stars and Bars.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
