Surely, people can’t be sent to prison for Animal Cruelty.... can they?

Yes you can go to prison for animal cruelty! If you engage in Dog fighting or Roster fighting or just plain mistreat animals you will go to jail and not collect 200 dollars (monopoly reference)!

Yes they should. There was a case here recently of an 18mth old cat named Snowy who was set alight and received third degree burns. Amazingly he survived and is recovering well due to the quick thinking of his owner who got him to a vet very quickly.

What sort of monster would do such a thing? Why? An animal is a living thing just like a human so why should it be treated cruelly and abused?

I advocate respect for all living things, live and let live.

Well, it all depends on the penalties provided in the law against cruelty to animals... if a prison term is indicated, it is a possibility if the judge is an animal lover, and also whether the person is a repeat offender.

Yes they can and will, people who are mass murderers and serial killers start off with animals, it's good to stop them before moving on to humans. However, I feel being cruel to animals and children is far worse than being cruel to most adults because children and animals can't defend themselves...

Yes, of course. Abusing animals is just like abusing a child- they are innocent, often defenseless, and mistreated.

Yes they can and rightly so. Quite apart from the suffering caused, such acts betray undesirable character traits. I suspect that someone who does this may be capable of cruelty to humans also.

If you are indifferent to suffering then you need to be assessesd and punished if necessary.

For some offenses they can, though unfortunately someone just throwing a cat in a dumpster probably isn't enough...I know people who've beaten, starved, and burned their animals with cigarettes that still only got a $750 fine. Here is a hub I wrote as to why I think animal fighting penalties should be strengthened, but a lot of the reasons I cite are the same ones I have for believing in strengthening the penalties for all kinds of cruelty to animals:hubpages.com/hub/Why-Animal-Fighting-Penalt.

Yes they can.. it was passed in the animal welfare law.. upto 6mths for minor cases with $25,000.00nz in fines, major cases can be upto 5yrs imprisonment.. this is gernalising worldwide, as i'm not sure about other countries, but this is the case in NZ. I've done a lot of study on animal welfare law in the past 12months to help my friend with her case agaisnt the SPCA, which she won.. and am seriously considering studying to become a animal defence lawyer @wychic.. I saw on the news tonight (here in nz) some woman had been caught on video throwing a cat into a dumpster, she was fined a hefty amount but also is under police protection because she's had threats made against her.. I don't know if the cat was already dead though.

Well, it depends on what we have in mind. This is because despite the fact that people kind animals for food ad some animals can be killed when violent, I trust some animals are our friends/ pets. Even those that are used as food should be killed in a humanly manner.

Therefore, if truly they are our friends and we truly desire to treat them as such then it is important that we protect them by giving them some rights. Some one said they are a living thing which is correct and they desire a humanly treatment. Lastly, some people are fighting to secure our environment by demanding environmental laws.

Let us have it in mind that animals are part of our environment which we seek to protect, if I am right then how can we protect our environment without protecting the animals? I am speaking because I am the author of the book, “it is time we truly know…” and I am currently a student (early stages) of veterinary medicine. I am commenting in a way that each of us can personally reason and answer this question better.

Lastly, I will like vet. Doctors to reach me on facebook among others because I need where we can exchange ideas on vet. Issues.

By their action toward animals there is a corresponding reaction.. they will be imprisoned by the law of karma. But if an animal attack a man, the man can kill him or hurt him without karmic reaction because he is defending himself, but if a man maltreat an animal for the pleasure of his senses and taking pleasure in seeing an animal suffering and struggling for life then he will pay for it. The law of karma will take charge of him.

Oh yes they can and should be. Despite what many people think animals do have feelings, try hitting a dog and it will yelp. This is just purr cruelty because most of these animals defenceless themselves, try doing cruelty to a lion that can defend itself and see what happens.

Of course they can! If they can commit the crime, just like Baretta said, they do the time.

Any human Being that is cruel to an animal deserves to go to prison..... It makes me sick when I hear about cruelty to animals. Michael Vick should have served more than 3 years. The lady throwing the cat in the trash is an idiot and probably has more enemies because of it.

Yes they can and I think they should be animals have hearts to and they shouldnt be treated no diffent than you would want to be treated.

I'm not sure if they can be sent to prison, but they can be fined and I have heard to instances where they went to jail. I think they should go to prison, however, as that's just meanness against an animal that has no say so or power. If she didnt' want the cat, she could've just given it to an animal shelter or something.

They might be send to prison for Animal Cruelty.

They for sure should be sent to jail (and for a long time). But I do not know enough to comment about the law.

They probably can't be (although, they should be). However, people can be fined - and, if they refuse to pay the fine, they can be arrested.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
