This is a longshot, but does anyone know some good ways for improving short term memory loss due to TBI?

For those of you who don't know,TBI is traumatic brain injury. I suffed a severe TBI in late 2005 and required emergency brain surgey. Since that time my short term memory is shot.

I can read something and as soon as I take my eyes off of the page,it's gone. This is particularlyalarming to me as the only reading that I do is reference based. I also scored the highest score possible in reading comprhension in school.

I used to be able to read something nce and retain it verbatim indefinitely. Now that's gone and I'd ike to start working toward it again. Any help would be appreciated/ Asked by BrainBuilder_is_gone 58 months ago Similar questions: longshot ways improving short term memory loss due TBI Health.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience, but I hope these suggestions help I've read about cases like yours and the good news is that there generally is an improvement with time, but the process is slow. The additional good news is that medicine is advancing very rapidly and our understanding of the brain is improving very quickly. There are already newer treatments which can help and more are expected soon.

But you're going to have to see your neurologist to get that kind of help. As silly as it sounds, you should try playing some games that force you to use your short term memory. It's like exercise for the brain and from what I've read there is a growing belief that this kind of thing can in fact cause your neurons to repair by taking alternative routes.

The classic memory game which referenced in all the literatue is Simon. There's a pocket version available now as well as a free online version which you should play often. You can play it here:neave.com/games/simon/You should also try to play another classic, Concentration.

There's an online version here:games.adoption.com/free-online-games/Con..., there are some computer games you can buy which are good for exercising your memory. 3 Only therapy was while I was in a rehabiltation facilty in Edison NJ. I was only there for about 8 weeks, but it did virtually nothing. They concentrated more on evaluating my condition then actually treating it(that cost my insurance co.160,370.45,no joke there).

I've started a new job over the last month and my benefits don't kick in for 90 days. Neuro phycholgists charge alot of money! Unfortunately anything that anybody posts will have to be referred back to over and over...Naughty Poppet, going on vacation when I need your help.

I see you have your cards now, ready for Vegas. I got one quality answer already, but the more the better. This user has been banned from Askville.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
