Those that rescue animals- did you do it as a child too?

MY mom was a little alarmed when I caught spiders and insects and put them in jars with 'air holes' large enough for them to escape through.

That's funny Rochelle! When I was a kid I used to catch spiders too & try to catch them flies to eat but,I couldn't catch flies so, I had to let them go because I thought they would starve! I would also get in the creek and catch stuff, I even got worms and kept them in a box of dirt!

I rescued this cat once when I was around 12, who had an eye infection- My Grandma said she knew when I got home from school & she pointed the cat out that I would get it. She didn't want it to run from her. So I treated it with boric acid for the eyes and he lived!

I named him Sirocka for some reason-lol! When I was 8 Grandma said dogs would follow me home & she would feed them. I remember one of them a pomeranian, the other one was a big dog.

I used to go in the alley and catch stray cats, with there claws and all and bring them home and tame them and keep them as a house cat. One wild kitten I saved I really got messed up, it scratched me up so bad, but I didn't let go and it got to come home and have a safe place to live. The most resent story that stands out- is the kitten that was pulled from an engine of a car- the lady said it had been there all day riding around- when it was pulled out, it head was cocked to the side and it was severely dehydrated- the lady was allergic to him and we kept him and he lived- his name it Sury- for survivor- at the lady's request to name him that.

The weirdest animals I have rescued are 5 opossums- there mother was found dead in the neighbors back yard and at the time we couldn't get the out to the wild-life center because of no gas money- I feed them around the clock for days and finally we took them to the center- 4 made it and were released back into the wild. Opossums are not as bad as people think, look them up and learn about them. They are very cute, when I would cover there eyes, they would wrap there little tail around my finger and try to sleep- they were barely a pound if that!

I will stop here but I could go on! It is definitely rewarding to rescue animals, some bring tears of sadness and others tears of joy- but it is about showing them love above all else.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
