Twitter: I'm a 56-year-old math teacher with a seldom-used MySpace page and a very active Askville account. So-- should I want a Twitter account? Why or why not?

I'm totally ignorant about Twitter. I twitter...and love it! My daughter, kind of, was the one that got me started Twittering. It’s fun!

I’m more of a follower of others, but I do have some followers--even our state’s Lieutenant Governor! Don’t know how that happened, but it’s cool! I intended to Twitter to help market my business; to make announcements of new things I have out and what I am doing.

But I don't do enough "exciting" things to make good Tweets everyday, I am afraid! Just occasional ones when I release a new design or offer something free on my site. But occasionally I will make some opinion or just a general "what I'm doing statement"--I'm just not too sure who cares about that!

LoL! I'm not so much into the "social" aspect of Twitter, to meet new people, but more for the information that I can glean from others. Anyway, as someone who is always hungry for news and information, I like following my local news agencies, and get the latest news in just a sentence so that if I want to know more I can click on the link and read it.

Most of my local tv and newspapers have a Twitter feed, where I can grab just a bit of news to "tease". I've always been a "headline reader", and if it's a catchy and interesting headline I then go on to read the article. When they have to limit their Tweet to 140 characters on Twitter, they make it short and sweet and I can chose to read what I want to know more about.

Very handy. Plus, they seem to Twitter the news before they publish on their websites, so it's a timely thing. And individual reporters and writers do their own Twitter, so you get to see another side of them that's not all facts and news.

I'm just nosy, I guess! I also follow things that I am interested in on Twitter, like museums and places. We went to DC last weekend and it was interesting to follow the various Smithsonian museum twitters to see what special events they had going on.

I'm trying to get my State historical museum to start Twittering--it's free advertising! We need FREE! A short phrase about a gallery, or an artifact, to "tease" people to come to see them in person, or a tweet about a special event at the museum--Twittering is perfect for that!

But people are sometimes slow at adapting to the technology. And did you know that Askville Twitters? Yep!

http://twitter.com/askville Nothing too exciting there, they just post a couple questions from the site every once in awhile. It would be GREAT if they used it to alert us to when they post in the blog (seeing as it's so rare! ) or when they make changes to the site.

THAT'S how Twitter is supposed to be used, not just to post the same stuff as the website. It would be cool, too, if an Askviller took it upon themselves to Twitter the REAL Askville--posting updates on various things that happen on AV so that those who miss a few days can catch up quickly. But that might be a bit dangerous to do, unless the right person took on the job.

AmazonDeals also Twitters, and lists the deals of the day there... http://twitter.com/amazondeals Regular Amazon Twitters but there's not much there. Just go to Twitter and search for a topic, and you'll probably find something. Check for your city or state, if you are interested in local things.

If you have a website or blog, post your Twitter info so others can follow you. You can also read the general list of Tweets, from people everywhere, but I don't do that as most of those don't make any sense to me. I generally just read ones that I am following or that someone else that I am following is following (get that?

! ) As a math teacher, you could post homework assignments, or things for extra credit...might be fun! I like that I can also Twitter on my phone (I use Twitterberry for that!

) so I can access it anywhere. It's nice to have when you are waiting for something. It's short, it's sweet--it's Twitter!

Here's what it looks like: Poppet Sources: http://twitter.com/home Video You can read about it on YouTube....but this is mostly about the "personal" side of Twitter. Video Twitter for Business...kind of long and slow..

1 I didn't "get" Twitter for a long time, and still don't really get it I must say. But I've found some interesting people to follow on it, which makes it more interesting. For instance Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore both Twitter very frequently and actually post candid pictures they took with their iPhones, etc. I subscribe to a twitter feed from Slickdeals so I can get deals on various things, then of course friends, etc. I use it to post short comments on news stories or things that I read online.

I've only had my account active for about a week so I'm not a pro Tweeter by any means and don't really have any followers other than a couple of friends, but it's interesting. I find the 140 character limitation to be a bit annoying. A lot of times I'd like to say something more about an article or something that I link to and frequently have to leave things out or shorten what I say to make it in the limit.

I guess that is good in some ways as you learn to be brief but I frequently find myself wanting to say more. I like Tumblr.com better I think. It's similar in a way, as it is more simple than a lot of blogging services, but it doesn't have the 140 character limitation and allows for pictures and movies to be easily inserted, etc. Like I said I don't fully get Twitter either, but maybe that will help you a little bit.

I'd say you definitely don't need an account, but it can be an interesting diversion at times. Really just depends on who you know on there and how interested you are in what they have to say. Some people just post what they had for lunch or that they're on their way home from work, etc which is pretty boring even if you know the person, to me.

But others have more interesting things to say.

3 I Twitter, but I confess, I'm still a little clueless about it. I'm new there, so still feeling around.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
