In ww1 whilst in the admiralty, he was responsible for the slaughter of 100,000 volunteers at gallipoli to achieve a pyrrhic victory, the first sea lord the lord fisher resigned in protest, and there was a public outcry, and he was buried for 20 years and brought back as a politician. At the end of ww2 on his authority the sas assassination squads were thrown into jail, instead of being made into national hero's, as promised, as he defined them as too dangerous to release into society, and it was too much trouble to rehabilitate them, he was responsible for rounding up thousands of war orphans, and children from deprived families, (even though they had relatives willing to look after them) they were forcibly shipped to austraila, and used as slaves and subjected to sexual abuse by austrailan farmers. The austrailan prime minister made a public apology for these atrocities last year.
The government could see another public scandal on the horizon and dispensed with his services. The electorate at the time were aware of his disregard for all forms of human life, and his methods of exploiting those who gave loyal service, for his own ends, and responded in an appropriate form. The records and history books have been amended to exclude his atrocities, and the losses he incurred at gallipoli.
Because he had very right wing views, he disliked most of the British people. He didn't want women to get the vote. We learnt our lesson from WW1, so voted in for a REAL change, from that Labour government we got a national health service and a joined up education system, allowing for the poor to get a good education.
The election was in 1945, not 46, he lost in a huge landslide by 13%! To Atlee, who was deputy PM during the war. We were not cheering Churchill, but very happy to have the European war ended!
The war wasn't about Churchil but about people, so those celebrating in Trafalgar Square, we're celebrating surviving and hoping their loved ones would return home safely. Edit source changed to 1945 election result, sorry. Edit2 woodie, I would claim he was the worst and certainly not the least liked.
Heath, Callaghan where pretty poor! Edit Fox, you are correct, he won the title in 1999. But most of those voting didn't have the possibility of him being PM!
Those that did voted against him. Please tell me what the half truth is? He voted against women getting the vote AND promoted a eugenics bill in 1913, where he wanted to castrate various members of the lower classes.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
