Was your professor effective in teaching the class you signed up for in college? What college/course? My Research topic?

My Research topic. I am a doctoral student writing my dissertaion on the effectiveness of professors in teaching subject matter at a college. Do you feel you learned anything in the class or did you pass the class and walked away not having learned anything?

Please provide College Name, Class or course, Grade received, Year attended and what percentage of the material fou felt you learned. How many books were you required to buy for the class and how many of those did you use in class? Thank you.

Well, I signed up for more than one class... :) This varied considerably by class. Some professors were excellent at conveying material that I wasn't especially interested in, while others pretty much ruined subjects that had previously fascinated me. I'll give you two examples.

University of Florida, Cultural Anthropology, Final Grade A, 1986, Professor L--, Books required - 2. I hadn't been especially interested in anthropology up until that class, but I think I came away learning 99% of the material from the lectures and only about 50% of the material from the books. The professor was fascinating in his description of his experience with the Kalinga warriors of the North Luzon Highlands.

Though he kind of delivered the material in a bit of a monotone, his stories were very interesting, very well thought out and really conveyed the point about how much of we take for granted about culture is really dependent on context. That one class sparked an interest in anthropology that continues to this day and I've read many books on the subject since. The professor was extremely effective in that case.

University of Florida, Physical Anthropology, Final Grade A, 1990, Professor A--, Books required - 2. By contrast with the first course mentioned, the professor in this case came off as quite pompous, angry and too politically correct to really gain much from his lectures. I found myself not being fascinated by what he was teaching but more annoyed by conclusions that really didn't seem to follow based on the material presented.

That was one instance in which I found the textbooks to be more informative and helpful than the professor. In this instance, though I learned the material from the lectures for the sake of the test, very little of it has stuck with me over the years. So I'd say 10% - 20% of the professor's material is something I learned long-term.

The ironic thing about those two examples is that the first professor was fairly new and not very well known person. The second was actually a fairly prominent anthropologist. I don't know if that went to his head, but the newer professor was far more effective than the experienced one.

I was going to include their names in this answer but I decided not to. Of course, I could give you many more examples. Overall I'd say half of the professors I've had were effective and half were not.

I hope that helps! Sources: My experience .

In my most recent class... Louisville Bible CollegeEthicsGrade: A2002Professor: Danny GabbardWe were assigned to purchase a couple of books and we used them both - neither were regular textbooks, but subject specific on a couple topcs he was covering - I think the total cost was about 25 bucks. Oh, I got a tremendous amount out of the class - I had to argue for late term abortion as part of my assignment and that was... interesting, given my stance. I also got to argue for banning stem cell cloning - and again, that was both an interesting and useful exercise.

I still have my papers. Sources: My answer .

I went to cleary college, now university and two of the courses I took my first year english, and math was too easy the books I bought for the courses wasn’t too bad but it was like I was taking my freshmen courses in high school all over again, after that term I tested out of the rest of the required classes in english and the math did get harder after that. The grade was (A) without trying. Each class required one book each.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
