We are considering disabling the "attach a link" feature in answers to curb the volume of spam (see more details)?

This doesn't remove that ability, just would allow for better filtering. What are your thoughts? Asked by GenelleH 4 days ago Similar questions: disabling attach link feature answers curb volume spam details Amazon > Askville.

Thanks :) Good to know! GenelleH 4 days ago .

The latter would be inconvenient, especially since some of the people who come to Askville really have no idea what they're doing on a computer. I had to tell someone how to copy and paste.

BTW I use the link feature all the time. I really like to back up my answers with a reference, otherwise no one would know if I was just pulling it out of thin air or not.

I believe the links in answers are all hotlinked - you can feel free to test something out in this answer box. :) But yeah disabling the link function won't change your ability to post links :) GenelleH 4 days ago .

I don't think I've ever clicked on "Link" to use it in an answer. Does that help? .

Definitely help - makes sense too! :) GenelleH 4 days ago .

Don't think I've ever used it, so if it will get rid of the spam, I'm all for it. Does this mean that someday we might get back some of the features which made the AV of old such an enjoyable site, such as being able to comment directly to someone's post? .

Grin* All I can say is that we have taken some of our regulars' feedback very seriously! :) GenelleH 4 days ago .

I'd say do it, I can't imagine how much spam that generates. As long as you keep the other three, I think you'll be fine.

Haha we get a LOT of spam that the community just doesn't see cos I'm busy cleaning up. :) Definitely appreciate the input! GenelleH 4 days ago .

As long as you keep video, image, and amazon product, I wouldn't object to getting rid of Link.

Awesome - thanks for the input! GenelleH 4 days ago .

That haven't worked since the upgrade over a yeart ago.

Forward a question feature is coming! :) Thank you for your input and as always, your continued patience and goodwill. :D GenelleH 4 days ago .

Hm... I see what you are saying - the site would still autolink stuff pasted in the answer box; but the spammers wouldn't think "aha, I can link to my website"I think it is about the same as door locks on a convertible - it will stop the amateurs; but the pros will always find a workaround. However, that; and one of our recent spammers just gave me the idea that it would be slick if alex could see about finding a way to interfere with attempts to use QR codes for avatars...

Re: EBR; I have not used amazon product since it stopped being convenient to load multiple products - I always just paste the link.

Hehe - don't worry, Alex is reading all this! :) Thanks for the input! GenelleH 4 days ago .

It won't stop them from copy and pasting their links to the window, I never use the attach features, its easier to drag the link icon to the window or copy. Paste the link.

I occasionally use the "attach a link" feature, but I don't see any real need for it. As long as a link can be posted in the Answer box, that seems to be all that we'll need. After reading some of the answers to your question, GenelleH, sorry to say that I never even noticed the "amazon Product" option.

I mostly use the "Image" and "Video" links.

I agree with DCComet. As I understand it we can still provide a link in the answer as before. Since I don't understand the difference between attaching a link and typing or pasting a link I would say Yes go ahead, if it provides a service for you.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
