Well it is not necessary to erect a May pole lol Honestly it depends on you and what you think appropriate and what you are willing to do. You can decorate your home with greenery collected outside as this represents the Goddess. The May pole was actually used as a phallic symbol for the God.
Have yourself a little feast preferably with red fruits, salads and oatmeal dishes. You are going to have to wait quite awhile for the next Beltane celebration so you have alot of time to plan.
Midsummer is over love, but you can plant something. I planted sunflowers with my daughter in a welcoming celebration of Summer.
I think the most important and simple thing to do on Samhain is to remember your beloved dead. Set up a simple altar to those among your family, friends, and personal heroes who have passed on. This is just photographs, mementos, etc.Laid out attractively and with a candle and perhaps a small bouquet.
Have two goblets. Pour a glass of wine to the Beloved Dead and a glass for yourself.
Raise the glass in salute. Tell each of your dead why you honor them and what you remember and love about them. Drink.
The next morning, pour the wine for the dead onto the Earth.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
