What are the problems with a join between two tables in two different databases?

If they are on the same server, there is no real problem pulling from separate database. In fact, you may want to separate them for good reasons. For instance if you have a combination of transactional tables and lookup tables that are imported from files.

The transactional data needs full recovery and frequent transactional log backups to be able to properly restore, the lookup data does not and can benefit from being in a daatbase in simple recovery mode.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
