What are your thoughts on Twilight fans buying necklaces with a vial to put blood in and wear around their neck?

Wow just when I thought all this Twilight stuff could not get any more ridiculous. While the obvious concern is blood can carry disease, also you have to consider where they are getting the blood. Obviously they are cutting themselves or someone else open to obtain enough to even fill a vial.

I think parents need to step in on this one quickly. A harmless love for a movie is one thing, physically harming yourself or others and possibly causing the spread of disease is another. While just saying, "Do not do this" likely would not work with most teens a good sit down discussing the dangers of blood borne pathogens in warranted, the pain from the wound is also a good punishment I suppose. An interesting bi-product:

.

I guess carrying around a vial of your own blood around your neck is safer than biting each other, but I’m not sure I understand what the draw to do something like this is. Is this in case you run across a hungry vampire and you can offer up your vial of blood so that they won’t puncture your neck? Are you supposed to be carrying someone else’s blood around in this particular vial?

This seems like another way for kids to get attention from adults by looking and acting as ridiculous as humanly possible. As far as danger goes, I would prefer them to do this than have lots of sex or as I said earlier bite each other, but this is still beyond the pale dumb.

Like the other answerers here, I think this is really really dumb. Not just from a health and safety perspective either, but even just in general. There are so many great things in this world to focus on, so I just have a complete lack of understanding for how someone could get personal gratification out of this.

If the goal was to not fit in and be negatively judged by everyone then mission accomplished. I'll bet getting the blood out to put in the vial would be quite the adventure too. Viles can carry a fair amount of liquid, so I hate to think about how much blood you'd need to extract in order to fill one.

Let's hope this is a fad that dies quickly. Whatever happened to just enjoying entertainment without letting the crazy ideas go to your head?

When I first heard that Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton wore vials of each other's blood around their necks I thought that was very bizarre and never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that this could be a fad. It seems to me that in order to fill a vial, a simple finger prick with a needle would not produce enough blood, so fingers would have to be pricked repeatedly to fill a vial. This makes me believe that some people would decide to prick a vein in their arm where the veins are the most visible and accessible.

Just because the vial is full doesn't mean that they can just turn off the blood flow. The infections a person could get by deliberately opening up a passage into his blood system could have very dire consequences, all in the name of ''love. '' Or, even worse, I can see an overzealous person trying to ''collect'' as many vials as possible to show off to his/her friends.

This is certainly not a behavior to be condoned.

Wow! And I was just racking my brain and trying to find a justification for the reasons why some youths would start up a Cullen’s cult or even have large tattoos of their favorite Twilight character on their body. Why do the youths find it easy to emulate the negative things around them , why can’t they decide to follow positive things such as the chastity of Edward and Bella as a sign of good fan fellowship.

I think the media has to do something about this. This is because a great number of the youths do not listen to their parents and prefer the advice or warning from the media. With the increase in blood related diseases, this is an issue that should be taken very serious and treated as such.

If the media can get Edward or Bella characters to feature in an STD advert at this time , it might curtail this silly act. Although, I heard that the ones sold at the stores are not real blood but a mixture of red dye and a liquid.

While I wouldn't want my son taking part in something of this nature. I can see the draw that would make people (teenagers) want to do it. I can remember being a child and us kids pricking ourselves with a huge safety pin, and then rubbing the bleeding spots together.

Vowing to be blood sisters til the day we died. Of course this was in the late 70s before we even knew what STDs meant. I have to say this was much worst than this vial of blood. It is kind of silly, but look how many people used to carry locks of hair around of their lover.

Maybe that could be suggested as an alternative. A nice locket with a lock of hair from your lover. Of course I guess that takes away from the "vampireness" of the subject.

Yes, it is too far for just a fad and phase, but I can't talk.

It seems silly, but not necessarily more dangerous than when kids used to become "blood brothers". Good that you talked with your kids about Your feelings. The more open you dialogue the more likely your kids will follow your values.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
