What are your thoughts? Was Benjamin Cardozo hispanic? Or might Sotomayor be the first hispanic justice?

1) Cardozo was on the U.S. Supreme Court.2) Depending on what your definition of spanic is (depends on where you are from), you can say that he was the 1st I think Sotomayor's record and background are great (meaning she's been around a long time), but I don't think she will matter much on the Supreme Court, other than her liberal vote. Most of her decisions from 2nd Court of Appeals have been reversed by the Supreme Court, and one decision blasted by the Supreme Court for being totally out there. I expect her decision in the "New Haven 20" to be similar (off topic - but who would you want to rescue you from a fire - a qualified individual, or one that was promoted based on his/her race?

) In addition, most colleagues don't like working with her because she's too opinionated, which won't sit well with the current U.S.Supreme Court. Again, I don't think she'll have a problem being confirmed, but I think she'll be pretty irrelevant.

Cardozo was a very famous New York Supreme Court Justice. He was never on the US Supreme Court, and he was not spanic--he was directly descended from Sephardic Jews from both sides of his family. Sotomayor is not the first spanic judge--she is already a judge for the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals.

Although a trailblazer, the US has had spanics as judges for years. What she is, however, is a first female spanic nominated for the US Supreme Court (SCOTUS). Everything I have been reading about her shows that she is a very smart jurist with over 30 years experience on the bench.

She was first nominated to the US District Court by H.W. Bush, and then nominated by Bill Clinton to the 2nd Court of Appeals. She has a progressive and liberal outlook on the law, focusing on workers rights, pro environment, anti big-business, and at least so far, has been following the Constitution and precedent as written. Once in SCOTUS it is only a matter of time to see her modify, extend, or review laws as she sees them--and that is something all justices do.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
