The cause of canker sours is not well known, however the formation of a canker sore is an abnormal response by the immune system. When the immune systems attacks what it thinks are foreign molecules the attack causes an ulceration to form, which are canker sores.
Canker sores in the mouth is caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV). The canker sores like oral herpes persist in the mouth for one to two weeks that makes it look symptomatically like herpes. The herpes, resembling cankerous mouth sores, though require treatment to exterminate the virus and prevent infection from spreading further; the canker sores don’t deserve any such treatment except consumption of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
