This is what I have learned: The Bible, was originally written in Hebrew and Greek. It uses the Hebrew word she? Ohl?
And its Greek equivalent hai? Des more than 70 times. Both words are related to death.
Some Bible translations render these words as “grave,” “hell,” or “pit. As for the actual word 'Hell'...according to Wikipedia "The modern English word Hell is derived from Old English hel, helle (about 725 AD to refer to a nether world of the dead) reaching into the Anglo-Saxon pagan period, and ultimately from Proto-Germanic *halja, meaning "one who covers up or hides something... Subsequently, the word was used to transfer a pagan concept to Christian theology and its vocabulary..." (Please, take a special note of that last sentence) As for what Sheol, Hades, Grave, Hell, actually is, according to the Bible, is answered in Ecclesiastes 9:10: "Whatever your hand finds to do, do with all your might, for there is no work nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom in the Grave, where you are going." And in 9:5: "For the living know that they will die, but the dead know nothing at all" Sincerely E.
Sometimes when it mentions hell in the bible, it actually says the pit, or Gehenna, which was a very real place, the valley of Gehenna, a canyon or pit of fire where they incinerated all the rubbish and animal carcasses from the city of Jerusalem. It was kept alight day and night with sulfur and brimstone, and I think it was actually a real punishment, to get thrown in there, with the foul smell, and the maggots, to burn alive. Pretty nasty.
No wonder Jesus wanted to make up the fake hell as an alternative.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
