Dorothy Day November 8, 1897-November 29, 1980 lived in the United States of America She was born in Brooklyn, New York. But she was raised in the San Francisco Bay area of California. For college, she started but didn't complete an undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
She moved to New York, and spent the rest of her life operating out of the home base that she set up for herself in New York City.
In the Episcopal Church, Dorothy Day is listed as a person "worthy of commemoration" in the liturgical calendar but for whom not enough time has elapsed since her death; the current guidelines of the Episcopal Church for an official commemoration in the calendar include waiting fifty years after the death of the one being commemorated. "Local and regional commemorations" are encouraged. Her autobiography, The Long Loneliness, was published in 1952.
