UNC student told dispatcher he had a gun BY JAY PRICE, STAFF WRITER Just before he was shot to death by an Archdale police officer early Sunday, a distraught UNC-Chapel Hill fraternity president called an emergency dispatcher for help and talked about 17 minutes. Courtland Benjamin Smith, 21, a junior biology major from Houston, told the dispatcher that he had a 9 mm pistol in his back pocket.
