What does my BMI tell me about my overall health and wellness?

There are so many ways in today's knowledgeable world to monitor and gauge one's overall health. At the same time, there are so many components and various aspects of an individual's health and well being. Lifestyle choices, eating habits, family history, environmental factors...they all influence and affect your physical self.

A common tool that professionals and individuals alike use to keep tabs on health is the BMI scale. The Body Mass Index chart correlates a person's weight in relation to their height. It is a relatively simple chart that produces an appropriate range of weights for any one person of a certain stature.

The BMI number itself is achieved by dividing weight in pounds by height in inches. If that number falls below 18, a person is considered underweight, while anything over 25 is considered overweight. Obese individuals are any number over 30.

Gauging your own personal health can certainly be achieved with the BMI scale in the most general of ways. It's a quick check to make sure that your weight is appropriate for your height, but that's it. Health is a lot more complex than weight alone.

You may fall in the normal range but have a poor body fat percentage, live off an unhealthy diet, smoke, or have some other condition that a measure of your weight would be unable to predict. On the contrary, there are many "technically" over- or underweight individuals that are incredibly healthy. Exceptions always exist.

Though utilizing your BMI to check in with your health is a good idea and a great first step, consulting with a doctor will give you a much better analysis. He or she will be able to look at your overall health in a much more thorough manner and provide you with the adequate tools to manage and improve your well being. It's certainly not convenient or likely enjoyable to take the time out of your busy life to properly and thoroughly assess your health, you've got to remember that this is your one and only life and though you may feel fine, you never know what's going on inside your body.

Take care and be well!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
