Then our system would have a sudden influx of people living below the poverty line that required services at tax payer expense. Most of them, even if they worked and paid taxes like citizens, since they work in "crappy" jobs no one else wants would be well below the poverty line and would actually get tax dollars back. Then, add the costs associated with free health care, as well as the fact that they breed rather more heavily than those people already here.

They would be eligible for Social Security, without ever attributing much to the system. We would just open the floodgates for more illegals because we'd be rewarding criminal activity, and the message would be "just stay around being a criminal long enough and you'll get rewarded by being a citizen". Other costs would go up too, as the need for translators increased, since it's been my experience that illegals generally don't bother learning that language of the host country.

Worse case scenario, the demographics change and those people who actually built this country into what it is become the minority, but without any legal protections, and the country descends into a third world cesspit like most of the countries south of the border.

Seriously, though, YoBob is right that the United States would be sending out a message that you could just ignore the laws you think don't apply to you. I guess that's already happened to some extent. We have drug gangs running LA.

Anyway, how would it affect the US? Well, a lot of things would happen. Any of the 20 million illegals who aren't already getting free medical care and welfare would get it.

And employers would be forced to pay former illegals at least minimum wage. I think what would happen is that all of these illegals would no longer be able to find work, since there's no longer an advantage to hiring an illegal if you have to pay them the same as an American. I think all 20 million would be on welfare.

It would be a huge burden. And I think those folks would stay on welfare for multiple generations.My opinion is that things would be worse off for us, because we would have to pay taxes to support them.
