What is a good external hard drive to transfer files from a PC (XP) to a new Mac Mini (OS X.5.6)?

What is a good external hard drive to transfer files from a PC (XP) to a new Mac Mini (OS X.5.6) The hard drive must be able to transfer files from a PC (xp) to a new Mac Mini (OS X.5.6). I don't have a lot to transfer so I don't need a lot of space, and I also want an inexpensive one, as I'll probably only use it one time. I use a Maxtor One Touch 1TB hard drive. I use a Maxtor One Touch 1TB hard drive. It's very quiet, though it does have a bright activity light that can be distracting in an unlighted room.

I have had absolutely zero problems with it. It came pre-formatted with the NTFS file system. Something ironic is that the Microsoft Xbox 360 can't handle the NTFS file system. To share files from my computer with my Xbox 360 with this external hard drive I actually used software called MacDrive which converts your file system to HFS+ (the Apple file system).

I converted my hard drive with that software (it only took a few minutes) and I've had zero compatibility issues with my Xbox 360. I also tried the combination of my Maxtor and MacDrive software out on a friend's Apple running OS X and had no problems. Sources: opinion .

Your best bet is to purchase a "Thumb Drive" AKA "Hot Drive" - they are used by both Windows and MACS and UNIX. The attach to a USB port - which all 3 operating systems support! They can cost as little as you want to pay - maybe $5!

1 Any USB hard drive will be just fine, as long as it's formatted FAT32. Be sure and pick one that does not need a power cable, only a USB cable. Don't get a small one thinking it will just be for moving files.

After you are done moving the files, you will want to reformat it for the Mac and use it as a Time Machine backup drive.

5 Just to clarify, my whole point is that even if you have a hard drive that doesn't automatically work with both your Mac and Windows system at the same time, there is software to fix that. I'm sorry the Xbox 360 reference confused you. I only mentioned it because I was taking a shot at Microsoft for making their Xbox 360 compatible with Macs and leaving XP and Vista uncompatible.
