What is the duty of a Grand Juror?

A Grand jury is a type of jury which determines whether there is enough evidence for a trial. Grand juries carry out this duty by examining evidence presented to them by the District Attorney’s office in the form of police officers and other prosecution witnesses. The District Attorney’s office is the state’s attorney, they represent the State.

The Grand Jury determines probable cause to issue indictments on persons accused of crimes. The Grand Jury hears testimony only not the defendant. Grand jurors also visit CCA Silverdale workhouse, Juvenile Correction Facility, Hamilton County Jail, and Community Corrections Office.

At the end of each term, or four (4) month service, a written report is given to the Judge. In the final report to the Judge the Grand Jurors report on the condition of the facilities, suggestions, criminal justice system, and their experience as Grand Jurors. More.
