The belt system at Mahalo is just a way of giving a benefit to those users who add consistent, quality content. It is also a way of keeping people from abusing the system, as Mahalo members who have higher level belts are given greater power to affect the flow of Mahalo dollars by being able to answer and ask more questions, vote on undecided "Best Answers", etc. They are also a good sign of the experience and dedication that a member has to the site, and create a fun "leveling-up" type of system. As an example, a White Belt can ask two questions and answer 20 questions per day, while a Purple Belt (several belt levels higher) can ask 15 questions and answer 80 questions each day. Check out this page for more details on belt benefits: mahalo.com/mahalo-belts It does not take very long to access the yellow belt, and the green will follow shortly if you set aside a little time each day to Mahalo.
