SPHAGNUM MOSS is the most common common name. The HANGING MOSS has the botanical scientific name of Papillaria, Papillaria is a genus of moss, you know it is the genus because it is spelt with a capital P. Another common moss I know of that grows on sandstone in Australia is called Campylopus bicolor, Campylopus is the genus bicolor is the species, you know that bicolor is the species because it is spelt with a little b.
