What makes a better pet? Mixed breeds, or pure breds?

In my opinion it will depend on the dogs back ground and breeding. There are pure breds that are really high strung for various reasons. If you are going to get a pure dog I really think that you should check their lineage very thourally.

Mixed breeds make awesome pets just as pure breds do. Just all depends on what one wants. I have owned both pure and mixed.

I think both make great pets. But going by my own experience of having both, the cross-breeds do tend to be a bit more stable personality wise.

Whether you want a mixed breed dog or a pure bred dog may depend on your long term plans. If you intend to show the dog, or breed it with the intention of earning money from the puppies, you will want a pure bred dog. If you want a family pet, many mixed breeds have great dispositions and good health.

You may want to choose a mixed breed dog from a shelter and, perhaps, save it's life!

A better pet can't be judged by whether it is a mixed breed or a pure bred, but by its temperament, though, a pure bred's temperament is usually much predictable. To me, the difference between a mixed breed and a pure bred is its physical appearance; and to some people, that pedigree features and looks are all important.

The best dog is one that you are very comfortable with. Because when you are more relaxed and comfortable, then the dog can sense that and be more relaxed and comfortable. It is easier to train a relaxed dog than a stressed or nervous dog.In my humble opinion, the breed or mix is of little concern, dogs want to please their owners.

I have a little long haired chihuahua who is sensitive to a lot of things, but when he sees me, when he knows that I am there with him and that I am relaxed and will take good care of him, he is more relaxed and less likely to get stressed. He doesn't bark because he has no reason to bark, he likes being petted so he lets everyone pet him. He likes to play and anyone willing to play is his best friend.

We stick together, keep an eye on each other and it works for us. Even though other chihuahuas are known ankle biters and yappers, he doesn't have to be like that.It is the combination of dog and owner that makes the difference.

It would depend what you mean by better... It's certainly my experience that pure breeds can have more health problems. We have a pure bred springer spaniel who is sensitive to environmental allergens that affect her skin. This can be treated, but means that she has to be fed a diet that costs twice the price of regular chow.

Our lab cross has no issues at all :-)Of course she's worth it though!

I have a silky terrier mixed with poodle and it seems easier for my kids to teach it some tricks. It has better obedient except that it is hyper active.

I think it just depends on the dog itself and there temperament aslo in what you are looking for.

My personal opinion, I think that mixed breeds make better pets. Unless, you know a lot about dog's, some dog's can be hyper, mean, snobs or stubborn. I have seen some breeds that I would never have as a pet.

I think all of these answers are correct but it also depends on how the owner treats them. Regardless of good breeding or if the animal is mixed or a mongrel - a good owner can do wonders, equally mistreated - good breeds can turn bad.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
