What's the difference between jazz music and jazz dance?

Jazz dance and Jazz music are very different in that Jazz dance can be heavily charged with an enormous amount of emotional energy. On the other hand, Jazz music is much more relaxing. Jazz dance is very similar to p-Hop in that it allows the dancer to exhibit his or her own personal style by using unique footwork while executing basic turns such as piques and pirouettes.

Jazz dance is the actual physical exercise of bodily movement as opposed to Jazz music which delivers the interpretation of a melody by using a performer’s voice or musical instrument. A Jazz music performer may interpret each music selection according to their individual mood and/or personal experiences. Jazz music is very lively and yet still relaxing while delivering strong, complex rhythms.

A Jazz music performer will always use improvisation during their appearance. Improvisation is a crucial key element to Jazz music. Jazz music uses songs and instruments to deliver its message whereas Jazz dance uses specific dance steps to communicate to its audience.
