What's the most irritating word in English?

Personally I'd go for either subtly, because I can't spell it, or publicly, because nobody can spell it. What word in English most irks you? Asked by quaboom 62 months ago Similar questions: irritating word English Education & Reference.

I think the worst word in English is blogosphere I cringe whenever I hear news reporters and the like use the word Blogosphere. It's such a dumb name, even if it's somewhat fitting, and I hate how they get this smug look on their face about how they're so hip and with it. I may be particularly reacting to just the whole phenomenon of discussing what's happening on the Internet, but I do very much hate that word and everything associated with its use.

Another word I hate is "often" because I was told once by a sophomore English teacher that you're not supposed to pronounce the "t". You're supposed to say "offen". I don't say it that way, but sometimes when I hear people pronounce the "t" I still cringe all because of that stupid teacher.

Draught I thought "draft" was a breeze or movement of air, and "draught" was an archaic way to refer to gulping down beer (e.g. "deep draughts"). I pronounced the latter differently, to rhyme with "ought". At some point, I read a book that was talking about the "draught coming from the furnace" and it blew my mind.

In general though, any of the words whose orthography has persisted since before the Great Vowel Shift and therefore has a spelling that makes no sense with regards to its modern pronunciation in most dialects. Sources: my opinion .

Insurgent...I can't STAND that word I don't know why, but I really do hate it Sources: my 2 cents .

Something More Irritating Than "Press 1 For English" or Outsourcing......

Here's a poser.. Give me one English word that will rhyme with 'MONTH'..

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
