When an item is plugged into an outlet and not being used is electricity still being pulled?

Answer I'ts minimul, but yes I knew a man who unplugged everything in his house before he left for work everyday. He said his bill did go down about $30 a month. I asked about his alarm clock, he said he got one with a battery back-up so he didn't have to reset it everyday If you have an entertainment center, it's easy to get a power cord you plug about 6 things into, then you just have to turn off the power cord, instead of unplugging everything.
