When applying to college, do I HAVE to send a transcript from my last college, or is it optional?

For most people, this is something you want to do because you receive credit for classes you already completed. But I don't have anything to transfer over. I spent about a semester and a half at college.

It didn't go well... due to health issues, I missed so many classes I automatically failed. Needless to say, I want a fresh start. I've been out of school for two years now, and I want to go back.

I worry that if I put down my previous college record, I won't be accepted. Is it mandatory to list that information? Asked by alyndria 50 months ago Similar questions: applying college send transcript optional Education & Reference > Colleges & Universities.

It may be mandatory depending on the college you apply to. Some schools require you to list all schools you've ever attended no matter the results or claims for credit. They gather that information for a variety of reasons.

You likely though are more interested in knowing if you will get caught not claiming a previous school. The answer is it depends. If they do require you to divulge (not all do) you could be caught when you sign up for financial aid.

When they process your aid quarters/semesters of use and prior loans will likely show up. If they check that against your claimed record you'd get caught.

Yes You MUST send the other transcript with the rest of your application. If you indicate in a personal statement what the problems were and how they affected your education, you may have a better shot. Otherwise, take some courses at your local community college to make up for it.

If you do not send the transcript, they may not even look at your application (especially if you indicate that you went to another school before), or they will ask you to send it. If you don't, then they can't review your file and make a decision. Sources: My boyfriend, the admissions counselor .

Depends on the college It depends. If it is a trade school, probably not. But if it is a major university, it is better to be honest.

If you are asked if you have previously attended college and you say "no" and they find out that you lied, some schools may deny you based on deception. And some schools may thought that you would have dropped the classes if something arose. It all depends on how prestigious the institution is.

If it were me, I would submit the high school information and stress volunteer or intern work since then, and put other records secondary or upon request and then state why you got the grades you did at the previous college and have documentation to back it up. The truth is the truth. And there are SOME schools that offer you assistance for hardship cases.

If you have taken classes at one college that you failed, you might be able to retake them at that college to get a better grade. Or you may have to take a class at community college to have something to transfer over.

Not if you do not want the credit from the previous college If you do not want to transfer the credit in, then there is no reason for you to submit a transcript. This would of course mean that you are starting at your new college as if you never attended any other college. I have been teaching college for over two decades and I occasionally encounter a student who does not list some previous college work.

Most of the time the reason they give is that they were immature and did poorly. I understand and never think negatively of them for it. Charles Ashbacher .

It is sometimes better to ask forgiveness than to ask permission! I'd just let it fade into the past. There is no central clearing house for academic records, so it is really up to you what you want to divulge.

I'm working on my doctorate now and have taken classes at many colleges. I am sure that my school doesn't have a complete transcript. Unless it will help you, leave it out!

As long as you aren't trying to get credit for work performed at the school you had problems at, they will be none the wiser. Good luck in your studies! Sources: my life .
