When buying bedroom carpets how does one select a color that works well with light fern green walls?

I am not sure whether to get a complimentary color say a beiglike color versus another tone of green which I believe should be a bit darker than the wall, yet I want to avoid having a totally grren effect. My walls are a very light fern brodering on mint. I have a northern exposure and when I painted I wanted a light room.

I would tend to... ...go with a somewhat darker green carpet and then counter the "total green out" with the bedding and curtains and any upholstered peices in the room. These are large enough color masses that they will counter the greens. White, pale yellow, a very pale sherbet stripe or a pale floral would look very pretty with the greens of the floor and walls.

I do not like beige carpet because every apartment I have lived in has had beige carpet. It shows the dirt like nobody's business, and is just plain boring. It also won't look very good with a pale green wall paint. An actual complementary color to pale green would be the color opposite it on a color wheel (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:BYR_color_wh... for a color wheel) and this would be an orange or a peach or even a form of rose-lavendar, depending on the precise green of your walls.

You can also go with the colors next to your color. In the case of green this would be blue or yellow. A suggestion - many paint stores now carry paint chips with several colors that all go together on them.

See if you can find chips with your wall green on it and then see what the paint company has paired with it that you like. Sources: My Opinion .

Colors I would say to think of nature..if you use colors from nature it will all go together. Fern green walls would look great with a beige-y or light brownish carpet! A dark green might be nice, but any dark carpet really shows the lint and fuzz especially seen in bedrooms from your clothes and stuff.

PLUS--you might want to paint your walls a totally different color and going with the more neutral color of carpet gives you more flexibility in future wall color choices (speaking from someone who has blue carpet in my bedroom and I'm so sick of it! ). We have "olivene" walls--kind of a sage-y olive color which is probably darker/more bold than your green, in our living room, and have a berber carpet with it, and I think it looks good.

Green can almost be a neutral itself, depending on the shade, and goes with many things. *Poppet*'s Recommendations American Simplicity 20-pc. Dinnerware Set - Fern Amazon List Price: $59.99 If this is the color of your walls I think it's really pretty!.

2 I would suggest either a textured carpet (such as berber) with multi-colours in shades of tan, ecru, brown; a sage and/or moss green carpet with subtle colour flecks throught; or several area carpets with complimentary colours.
